I like to create opportunities for the public to interact with the arts freely, typically through painting. I usually create a blank “coloring book” style design on an object and let the people go at it.

I find it easier to get people to participate when there are some kind of guidelines or shapes for them to color in. Once they’re comfortable, people often make up their own designs and the piece morphs into something new. It’s a great reflection of the creativity in the community.
